PREREQUISITES | -Successful completion of a training course for inspectors, AND -Bachelor's degree and 1 year of experience in a related field (e.g lead, asbestos, environmental remediation work, or construction), OR -An Associates degree and 2 years experience in a related field, OR -Certification as an industrial hygienist, professional engineer, registered architect and/or certification in a related engineering/health/environmental field (e.g., safety professional, environmental scientist), OR -A high school diploma (or equivalent), and at least 3 years of experience in a related field (e.g., lead, asbestos, environmental remediation work or construction) |

INDIVIDUAL APP REQUIREMENTS | $250 initial, renew every 3 years, $125 every year inbetween |
INDIVIDUAL EXAM FEES | Third party exam. $70 for each attempt. |
COMPANY APP REQUIREMENTS | $500 initial, renew every 3 years, $300 every year inbetween |
REFRESHER TRAINING | -Every 3 years if the individual completed an accredited refresher-training course with a course test and hands-on assessment -Take refresher within 1 year PRIOR to expiration of current certificate -Submit application to refresh at least 60 days PRIOR to expiration of certificate |
RECIPROCITY | There are numerous reciprocity agreements with EPA and other states with authorized lead-based paint programs. Your state may accept training for certification programs from those training providers accredited by EPA or other state authorized programs. Because reciprocity agreements are subject to change, it is strongly recommended that you contact your state's accrediting body before taking training from an outside source. |
